Business books

Atomic Habits by James Clear (I would recommend re-reading this book annually) – the title says it all.

Recruit Rockstars by Jeff Hyman – how to find the gamechangers your organization / firm needs.

Shoe Dog by Phil Knight – Details how he built his empire and how integral his people were to the journey.

The Hard Thing About Hard Things by Ben Horowitz – Gives Tactical and Strategic advice for running a company and managing people.

02

Finance books

The Turnaround Kid by Steve Miller – less about actual turnaround tactics and more about how to manage change and lead organizations.

America’s Corner Store: Walgreens Prescription for Success by John Bacon – Great read on a great institution. A testament to that an investment in a cohesive and special culture can drive outstanding results.

The Caesars Palace Coup by Max Frumes and Sujeet Indap – one of my favorite reads as I worked on the original LBO.

Good to Great by Jim Collins – analyzes why some companies can change and adapt with changes while some wither.

Nudge by Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein – Great intro to the field of behavioral economics.

03

Personal improvement books

The Family Firm by Emily Oster – how to manage your family like a firm.

The Upside of Stress by Kelly McGonigal – I often think stress gets a bad reputation; this book puts it in context and shows (via data) that stress can be good.

Ego is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday – perspective on how to make sure your Ego doesn’t hinder your success.

Good Arguments by Bo Seo – perspective on how to argue efficiently and non-emotionally.

Personal finance

The Most Important Thin by Howard Marks – Summary of Howard Marks’ thoughts.

Buy this, not that by Sam Dogen (Financial Samurai) – shows how saving and passive income can drive wealth creation.

Richer, Wiser and Happier by William Green – doesn’t preach one strategy is perfect for each person, reminds me of the takeaway from CFA level 3 where key is understand the individual investor risk tolerance and goals.

Getting More by Stuart Diamond – shows that everything is a negotiation and helps understand how one can increase their win rate.
